Census finally gets Inishowen
numbers

THE CSO has said it now has enough candidates in Co
Donegal including Inishowen to go forward for
interview for posts as Census 2011 enumerators.
The national statistics body had to extend the
application deadline in the county by two days last
week when not enough people registered their
interest for the 10-week contracts.
CSO census liaison officer for the west and north
west, Pat Pentony, yesterday said application
numbers had been lower than expected in some regions
including Inishowen.
But he said a media campaign on local radio stations
including Highland Radio, Raidio na Gaeltachta and
Ocean FM sufficiently boosted the application
numbers by the time the new deadline closed at
midnight on Thursday, January 13.
"As a result of the radio work that we did, we got a
good response and as a consequence, we now have a
sufficient number of people in Co Donegal to call
forward for interview," said Mr Pentony. |

The geographically
large county will need approximately 200 enumerators
for the census of population to be held on Sunday,
April 10, 2011.
Inishowen is divided into three census field
districts (east, west and south) with approximately
11 enumerators required for each. Candidates will
receive letters calling them for interview at a
venue within their field district. The interviews
begin next Monday, January 24 and the process in the
peninsula is |
expected to last around
two weeks. Mr Pentony said each candidate could
expect an interview lasting up to 30 minutes. "We
are looking for people who are committed, who will
work hard and who are geographically well positioned
to do an area."
Successful candidates will earn an average of €2,200
over the period of the contract. Mr Pentony said the
application deadline also had to be extended in
other west coast areas including parts of Connemara,
Kerry and Cork. |
