SENATOR Cecilia
Keaveney has rejected claims Inishowen will go it
alone with a selection convention in Buncrana on
Thursday. She said she has had no discussions
locally or nationally about conventions for the
forthcoming general election.
Senator Keaveney said that, in her 15 years in
national politics, there had been a single process
whereby nominations are sought by FF headquarters
from all cumann in any part of the constituency.
This normally led to the holding of a convention.
She stated that she remained one of a number of
nominated candidates in Donegal North East but, to
her knowledge, no date had been set for a convention
in her constituency.
It had been reported that a meeting of Inishowen
Fianna Fáil members was held on Sunday night at
which three people, Cllr Rena Donaghey, Senator
Cecilia Keaveney and Cllr Charlie McConalogue were
nominated. Cllr Donaghey is said to have withdrawn
her name, saying she would support the choice made
at the convention. |
