'Watch children after Speed death' 04.12.11

PARENTS have been urged to keep an eye on their children following the tragic death of football manager, Gary Speed.
Parentstop in Co Donegal said many children, and in particular young boys, look up to footballers and could be vulnerable following the Welshman's suicide.
Parentsop's Helen Kelly said mums and dads could also use Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given's outpouring of grief at his former team-mate's death, to get children to open up.
“I would urge parents to keep an eye on their children. Many young men in particular grew up admiring Gary Speed and they may be left feeling extremely shocked and upset following his death.
"Perhaps they have seen how goalkeeper Shay Given wept openly before his football match and this might be the chance to speak to them about their emotions, how they deal with their emotions and how they feel about this tragedy.” Parentstop is a family support service with outreaches in Letterkenny, Donegal Town and the Inishowen peninsula. The group's numbers are: 07493 73493; 07491 77249 or 086 8494038.
