GARDAI are appealing
for information after a mother and children were
robbed at gunpoint in a rural area of Buncrana this
morning.
The incident happened at the family's home in
Kinnego, near Buncrana, around 9am.
Three men armed with handguns entered the house and
threatened the family. They stole an undisclosed sum
of cash before fleeing in the family's car, a dark
blue Audi A6, registration-number 09DL2621. No shots
were fired and nobody was physically injured, say
gardai.
The men fled in the Audi to the border village of
Bridgend before crossing into Derry. The car was
recovered in Derry around 10am by the PSNI.
A fourth man, driving a Northern-registered silver
Nissan Almera – registration number CZJ 2195 - was
arrested close to the scene of the robbery a short
time after the incident. He was taken to Buncrana
garda station where he can be held for up to 72
hours.
The scene was sealed off pending a forensic
examination and gardai are appealing for witnesses.
Anyone who saw either car in the Buncrana area is
asked to contact gardai in Buncrana. "Threats were
made but nobody was injured,” said a garda
spokesman. |
