GARDAI have renewed
their appeal for information following the one-year
anniversary of the death of a popular young student
in a hit-and-run incident in Carndonagh.
Joseph McLaughlin (22) died after being struck by a
vehicle as he walked home alone from a night out in
his home town on Sunday, January 3, 2010. The
incident happened shortly before 5am on a narrow
country road at Tiernaleague, a short distance from
his family home.
Mr McLaughlin, who was a final year engineering
student at NUI Galway and a talented GAA player, had
been visiting his family during the college holidays
when the incident happened. His body was discovered
lying on the roadside by a passing taxi driver.
Buncrana Garda Inspector David Kelly yesterday said
the investigation into the incident was ongoing.
"We would ask any person or persons who might have
information relevant to the death of Joe McLaughlin
to come forward no matter how trivial or
insignificant they may view that piece of
information," said Inspector Kelly. Buncrana Garda
station can be contacted on 074 9320540. |
