Joe McGeady - An Appreciation 11.05.11

ON Holy Thursday the parish of Moville and the wider community were shocked and saddened by the news of Joe McGeady’s untimely death.
Joe was a perfect gentleman, a community person and most of all a devoted family man. He was blessed with the ability to deal with situations in a calm and collected way and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A native of Falcarragh, in the Cloughaneely Gaeltacht, Joe was educated in Colaiste Einde, Galway before qualifying as a national school teacher at Colaiste Phadraig, Drumcondra. He worked in various schools before being appointed to Scoil Iosef, Moville, in 1971 where he taught until his recent retirement.
During his years in Moville, Joe became involved in many sporting groups and organisations including Community Games, Church Folk Choir, badminton, golf, GAA and ceŽiliŽ dancing. He also loved a game of cards, but his greatest passion was for Gaelic Games and Irish cultural activities. It was in this area that he made his greatest contribution.
Joe was a founding member and trustee of Bun an Phobail GAA Club. He worked tirelessly in the development of our club and in the promotion of Gaelic Games and culture. That three of his sons continue to play football and coach underage teams was a great source of pride to Joe.
As a founding member of Cumann RinceoiriŽ CeŽiliŽ, Inish Eoghain, he held ceŽiliŽ dancing classes for many years in Muff, Moville, Carrowmena and Bocan. I have no doubt that his contribution has been instrumental in the healthy state of ceŽiliŽ dancing in Inishowen at present.
As we mourn the passing of a great Gael, we remain richer for having known Joe. Ni bheidh do leitheid ann ariŽs.
On my own behalf and everyone associated with Cumann Luthchleas Gael Bhun an Phobail, we extend our sympathy to Joe’s wife, Eileen, sons Simon, Maurice, Tony, John and the wider family circle.
SlaŽn a chara, agus go dtabharadh Dia suaimhneas sioraiŽ na bhFlaithis duit. Ar dheis DeŽ go Raibh d’anam -

Conal O’Domhnaill, Cathaoirleach, C.L.G. Bhun an Phobail.
