Students vie for 'Junk' crown
11.04.11
ART students at two
Inishowen schools are appealing for your votes as
they compete in a top national fashion competition.
Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana and Carndonagh Community
School have no fewer than three outfits in the All
Ireland Junk Kouture final which showcases fashion
designs made entirely from recycled materials and
throw-away waste. |
The local students,
under the direction of teachers Veronica Buchanan in
Buncrana and Amy O'Lomasney in Carn, are clearly
punching above their weight. They managed to get
three designs into the 65-strong final out of a
total of more than 1,000 entries.
A quarter of the points will come from online votes
and the deadline is this Friday, April 15.
Scoil Mhuire's two entries are 'Fashion is a Work of
Art' and 'Memory Stained Drops of Bedlam' while Carn
Community School's is called 'Woman Empowerment'.
The judging criteria will include how effectively
the students used old trash and junk in their
design; whether it has the 'wow factor' on stage and
how good the choreography/presentation is during a
90-second catwalk. |

Carn Community School's Junk Kouture
entry, 'Woman Empowerment'. |
The Junk Kouture winner
will get €5000 for their school and €500 and a glass
trophy for the winning student(s). To vote for your
