Keri home as sight improves 04.11.11

BUNCRANA'S Keri Kelly touched down in Inishowen on Tuesday for the first time in almost a month after undergoing groundbreaking eye surgery in China.
The Scoil Iosagain pupil underwent a number of stem-cell operations in a bid to restore her sight. The nine-year-old has been blind since birth after being born with optic nerve hypoplasia. The condition meant that her optic nerves never formed.
Keri’s mum, Tracey Kelly, revealed that the operation was proving to be a success so far. She said that her daughter can now make out shapes from further away than before the treatment began. Tracey’s partner, Mickey Duffy, said the signs are all good for Keri.
“It went well. Keri did an eye test when we landed [in China] and one when we were leaving.

They said her brain is responding to light quicker now. She is noticing things further from her face as well so hopefully it continues,” he added. (Inishowen Independent)
