by Linda McGrory
GREENCASTLE man Seamus Carey is busy these days
filling a van with the generosity of people from
Inishowen.
Seamus will depart next Tuesday on a mercy mission
to an orphanage in Sidrabini, Latvia, with a van
packed to the roof with toys, blankets, clothes,
toiletries and other much-needed items.
He will be accompanied on the trip by his Moldovan
friend and employee, Stanislav (Stas) Casian. Stas'
Latvian wife, Liga, earmarked Ziluks orphanage for
the vital aid after hearing its plight from her
niece who works there.
Seamus and Stas will head to Rosslare in a Mercedes
van loaned for the trip by Lawrence Cavanagh. They
will travel through France, Belgium, Poland,
Lithuania before arriving at their destination. |

Mechanics, Seamus Carey and Stas
Casian, take a short break as they prepare for their
aid mission next week to an orphanage in Latvia. |
"It will take us
three-and-a-half days to get there, we will be
unloading and distributing the goods for the next
three days and it will be another three-and-a-half
days coming back," said Seamus, a well known local
mechanic. He said the 18 children and young adults
in Ziluks orphanage are badly in need of help. "They
don't have much, it's a very poor area and this will
mean a lot to them."
He thanked everyone in the area who donated goods to
the mission and thanked people who gave cash
donations towards the €1,000 fuel bill to get there
and back. |
