AN Illies woman may have half a million reasons to
thank her mother-in-law come Saturday evening.
Mum of two, Angela Devlin, is keeping her fingers
crossed ahead of an appearance on RTE’s Winning
Streak programme after her husband's mother, Annie
Devlin, bought her the lucky ticket in SuperValu,
Buncrana, last week.
“I couldn’t believe it when my sister Sinead rang on
Saturday night. I didn’t even know I was in with a
chance of being on! I turned over to RTE straight
away and saw my name come up at the end of the show.
The phone never stopped ringing all night after
that,” Angela said.
And while the Ballymagan housewife is keeping her
feet firmly on the ground before her potentially
life-changing trip to the capital, youngest son Kyle
(13) has his eyes firmly fixed on the half million.
“We’re going for €500,000,” he said in confident
mood. |

Angela Devlin, husband Seamus and
sons Shane and Kyle look forward to big money on
Winning Streak. |
Angela, from Sarida,
Ballymagan, will be happy with whatever she gets.
“Anything I get is a bonus really. The man from RTE
said the average winnings are around €30,000 so I’d
certainly settle for that,” she said with a smile.
With RTE filming Angela in her home patch on
Wednesday, sports-mad sons, Shane (15) and Kyle got
in on the act too. Cameras followed the lucky mother
cheering on her youngest at Illies Celtic while
fifteen-year-old Shane was captured in action at
North-West Golf Club.
“They are hoping I win big so they can get lots of
new golf gear,” Angela said.
Originally from Malin, Angela is a self-confessed
Illies convert after marrying local man Seamus
Devlin. “He’ll have to keep me now I suppose,” she
joked.
Twenty-two of Angela’s friends and family, making
the journey to Dublin this Saturday, will be hoping
that the jovial blonde enjoys a night to remember.
As for her mother-in-law, also from the Illies,
Angela said with a smile: “Annie will have to get a
cut too!” And as for the rest of her winnings?
“Hopefully I get enough to pay off a few bills and
maybe make a few improvements to the house,” she
added. Watch Angela’s big moment on RTE One at
8.15pm this Saturday night. |
