Malin Head

A new Malin Head
tourist information leaflet was launched on Friday
at Banba’s Crown, Malin Head to provide visitors
with information about Ireland’s most northerly
point. The flyer, which also promotes the Inishowen
peninsula generally, was created by a cross-section
of interest groups including Malin Head Community
Association, Inishowen Development Partnership,
Inishowen Tourism, Donegal County Council and local
landowners.
Donegal County Council electoral area chairman, Cllr
Mickey Doherty commended everyone involved. "Malin
Head is one of the most beautiful places in the
world to visit, with its breathtaking views, rich
history and culture," he said.
The leaflet is part of a wider strategic plan to
develop the Inishowen peninsula and Malin Head as a
sustainable tourism destination. Donegal County
Council is in the process of securing funding to
further develop the Inishowen 100 Driving Route by
providing visitor interpretation and upgrading a
range of scenic viewing points, as well as revamping
the Inishowen 100 branded signage. |

As Ireland’s most
northerly point, Malin Head is a growth tourism
destination, with thousands of cyclists completing
the Malin Head to Mizen Head challenge every year,
say the promotion bodies.
"The ruined signal tower at Banba’s Crown dates back
to the early 19th Century and was used as a Lloyd's
signal station, as well as a look-out tower during
two world wars." Visitors arriving at Banba’s Crown
can also avail of tea and coffee at a mobile barista.
"The only advice for visitors coming to Ireland’s
most northerly point is to 'keep hold of your
hat!'."
The Malin Head tourist information leaflet is
available in tourist information centres throughout
the North West region, as well as at Malin Head
