Men's Shed invite for locals
11.04.11
A MAN'S shed is often
his castle - a quiet haven away from the trials and
tribulations of everyday life.
Now, a group called Men's Shed Ireland is testing
the waters in Inishowen, to see if there is enough
interest to set up a local community project.
Men's Shed is open to men of all ages and skills,
employed, unemployed or retired.
It is a community-based, non-commercial organisation
which is open to all men. The primary activity is
the provision of a safe, friendly and inclusive
environment where men can gather and/or work
together. Activities range from restoring old
furniture to bicycles, cars/tractors, fixing lawn
mowers, or working on that DIY project they never
get around to at their own pace. |

the earliest Men's Shed projects. |
John Evoy of Men’s
Sheds Ireland says members come from all walks of
life and that "the bond that unites them is that
they are men with time on their hands and would like
something meaningful to do with that time".
There are around twelve Men’s Shed groups up and
running around Ireland since 2005. "More are
starting up, bringing great opportunities for men to
get involved,” he added.
An open meeting will be held in the Action Inishowen
Centre, Millbrae, Carndonagh this Thursday, April 14
at 7pm.
It will be facilitated by Cathal Monaghan, a member
of the Men’s Development Network Ireland and Men’s
Sheds Ireland, who has been involved in men’s groups
and other men’s organisations for many years.
