UP TO thirty new jobs will be created in Moville
with a milk and food processing plant set to open
for business in the town in less than two months.
Moolicious, a new dairy company, will produce
sachets and pots of long life milk for export to the
UK market and eight other countries across Europe.
Using the latest available technology, the
innovative plant will produce millions of small
units of long-life milk, which, unlike the UHT
equivalent, will retain a fresh taste for up to
twelve months.
The man behind Moolicious, Mick Murphy, said he has
already been inundated with CVs even though he
hasn’t yet officially advertised the jobs and the
factory isn’t due to begin production until next
January.
“Every time I go into the factory there is another
CV behind the door. Word of mouth has really
spread,” he said.
Working behind the scenes on the factory since 2006,
Mick revealed that the vast majority of staff will
be recruited locally over the next number of weeks.
“I’ll have to bring in a few technical people from
outside the area but most of the positions will be
filled by people from the local area. These are
high-skilled technical jobs and training will be
provided on site,” he said.
With experience of setting up factories for others
across the world, this is the first time Mick has
established his own processing operation. He has
also worked in the creameries industry for more than
a decade and has used those contacts to ensure that
his new Moville venture will become an unqualified
success.
“We have already sold out the first five years worth
of the Moolicious product so it’s not a case of
introducing it and hoping that it will be successful
– we already know it will be,” he said.
Mick said many people told him he was mad to set-up
a factory in Moville but he thinks the location is
proving ideal.
“I have everything I need in the town. Local people
and businesses have been unbelievable in their
support for this new venture,” he said.
Also praising Enterprise Ireland and AIB for backing
his idea, Mick said he should be trading at Glencrow,
Moville before the end of January. Beginning with
milk, the factory will also produce other
sterile-packed long life food items in the near
future. |
