THE Campaign for a
Clean Estuary has backed a High Court challenge
against the controversial decision to grant approval
for the Moville Greencastle Sewage Scheme by An Bord
Pleanala.
The group filed papers last week at the High Court
in Dublin. Spokesman, Enda Craig, said the move was
"necessary given that the inspector had recommended
refusal on three occasions, to see the decision
overturned by the board".
"Having sought legal advice and with support from
the Carnagarve residents and other interested
parties this was now the only option left to us in
an attempt to finally see justice done on this
diabolical scheme," said Mr Craig.
"The people of Moville and Greencastle have been
sold a pig in a poke regarding this project and even
after a long process and money squandered we are
still none the wiser as to the type of plant that is
proposed to be provided.
"Coupled with this, the discharge directly to Lough
Foyle is to be deplored. At the end of the day the
future of Lough Foyle and its beaches are at stake."
He said the Campaign for a Clean Estuary would
"fight on" and would follow the case into the Courts
and "take our chances there".
"Our repeated concerns have not been listened to and
we have only this course of action open to us now,"
he added.
Judicial review proceedings were initiated last
Thursday, he added. Any person wishing to assist the
campaign group financially or otherwise can contact
