MUFF parish priest Fr John Farren has condemned an
attack this week in which a house with a family
inside was shot at.
Fr Farren said there could never be any excuse for
such an attack that happened in Wheatfield near the
centre of the village.
“I condemn this attack utterly and wholeheartedly.
This is a quiet residential area and a very quiet
area," said Fr Farren.
“There can be no excuse for this sort of behaviour
which has violated the sanctity of a family home. No
matter what excuse those behind this attack may put
forward, such actions can never be justified.”
He added: “The whole community is shocked and
appalled at this and cannot believe that it happened
here in Muff.”
Local Fine Gael councillor Mickey Doherty said the
shooting had to be condemned by everyone. He said:
“I was made aware of this shooting very soon after
it happened. This is an absolutely shocking incident
which must be condemned totally.
“I know the man whose house it is, to see from
around the village and I would know his children to
see as well.
“They have never bothered anyone and there has never
been any bother in that estate or indeed in any of
the estates around the village.”
He continued: ”For someone to come like this at 9
o’clock in the evening with children about is just
deplorable.”
Councillor Doherty who is a member of the Donegal
Joint Policing Committee said he would be raising
the matter at the next meeting.
He said: “I will be writing to Inspector David Kelly
about this incident and see what measures can be put
in place to prevent a repetition.
“I don’t think there is any question of Garda
resources as this area is well served but we must
ask how Gardaí are deployed.
“We must look at what happens in this area and see
how we can counter it.” Gardai have appealed for
information on the incident. |
