A NEW Yorker with
strong Buncrana connections is to be honoured by the
Donegal Football Club in the Big Apple. Mary Grant
is this year's recipient of the Damian Meehan
Memorial Award. The award was set up in memory of
Damian Meehan, a commodities trader who died in the
9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
The popular husband and father was from a Donegal
background and loved to play GAA football. Mary
Grant was raised in the Bronx by her Buncrana-born
parents. She is married to Eamonn from Ballyliffin
and they have two sons, Eamonn and Brendan. Mary is
the long-standing recording secretary of the New
York Donegal Football Club. She has also been
chairperson of the club's annual banquet since 1991.
This year's 63rd annual awards and banquet will be
held at Greentree Restaurant in the Bronx on
Saturday, April 16. The club will also honour senior
player of the year, PJ Flanagan, junior player of
the year, Eamonn Gunn and young player of the year,
Mark Murray. The club person of the year will be
revealed on the night. |
