Whopping 1,742 online votes cast
18.02.11
THERE were some
interesting twists and turns in the latest Inishowen
News online poll when a whopping 1,742 votes were
cast.
Poll watchers would have noticed the top three spots
changing regularly throughout the day with a big
surge in votes cast in the final couple of hours.
At close of polling, the top three positions were
taken by sitting Inishowen Electoral Area
councillors: Fine Gael's John Ryan (753 votes);
Fianna Fáil's Charlie McConalogue (711 votes) and
Sinn Féin's Pádraig MacLochlainn (115 votes). Our
final online poll will be held next Tuesday. For

Meanwhile, a telephone opinion poll carried out by
the Tirconaill Tribune shows a serious collapse of
over 35% in the Fianna Fáil vote in Donegal North
East generally. Padraig MacLochlainn of SF and Joe
McHugh of FG seem certain of being elected
comfortably with both parties recording a
significant increase in their support levels,
according to the poll.
The poll is good news for Labour and with 15% of the
vote Jimmy Harte will be confident his team can
build on that figure in the coming week and be in
with a fighting chance of taking the third seat. The
FF share now stands at 15%: down by a massive 35.3%
since 2007.
The telephone poll across all areas of the
constituency saw the views of 800 members of the
electorate recorded on Thursday and Friday of last
week. However 31% of the electorate who expressed a
preference to cast their vote remain undecided about
what party or candidate they are going to support.
The FG vote is up by almost 6.5% since the last
general election with Joe McHugh taking 20% of that
share. However it is the Sinn Fein bandwagon that
has gathered most speed and Padraig MacLochlainn is
polling 28% and looks certain to be elected on the
first count. The SF vote in the constituency is up
by 10.5% since 2007.
The FF candidate Charlie McConalogue is polling 15%
as is the Labour candidate Jimmy Harte and this is
likely to be the battleground for supremacy in the
final week of the campaign.
The Independent candidates are not polling strongly
and their position has not been helped by the late
arrival of a number of candidates.
Betty Holmes is faring best with a strong showing of
7%. |
