Buncrana gets new councillor 10.04.11

SLAVERY man Ciaran McLaughlin is to be co-opted to replace Deputy Pádraig MacLochlainn on Buncrana Town Council.
The 38-year old was selected at a local Sinn Féin convention in the town on Friday evening.
He got the nod after a two-way contest between himself and Seamus Gill from Meenagorey, Buncrana. Ciaran will be co-opted on to the council at this week's monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 13. Speaking after his selection, he said:
"I am honoured to be given the responsibility of continuing the good work of Pádraig and other Sinn Féin town councillors back to the great Eddie Fullerton. "These are tough times for our community. Our people have faced job losses and serious cuts to their income. Local businesses have been badly squeezed. I am determined to play my part working with the team on the town council to promote all that we have to offer."
Soon-to-be councillor, Ciaran McLaughlin, is congratulated by colleagues, Cllr Mary Kelly, Cllr Jack Murray and Pádraig MacLochlainn TD.
He added: "Buncrana is a special place with our parks, beaches, and many other local amenities. We are blessed with strong community spirit with more and more local people standing up to be counted in these difficult times. That is the foundation that we must build on in the time ahead"
The soon-to-be local councillor lives in The Meadows, Buncrana, with his wife, Majella (nee Fletcher) and their three young boys. He works with An Dorás manufacturers in Lisfannon and is chairperson of his local residents' association. He is also active in various sporting and parents' committees in the town.
