WITH Cockhill Celtic just four days away from the
biggest game in club history against Sligo Rovers on
Easter Monday, manager Donal O’Brien couldn’t be
more positive.
“We are going out to win. I won’t be sitting back,”
he said confidently.
“If the players are prepared properly, which I
believe they will be, then they can achieve
anything.”
After unexpectedly defeating Galway United in the
last round of the EA Sports Cup, the local club will
relish the underdogs' tag once more.
“Football is about 90 minutes and it is about who
wants it more. Every player, from 1 to 18, must be
ready to go. We will meet early on Monday and have
something to eat before having a walk around the
pitch. I will talk to every player and assure them
that we can do it. Why not? Anything can happen,”
O’Brien said. |

O'Brien, far right, is upbeat going into the big
Easter Monday showdown at Maginn Park with Sligo
Rovers.. |
A former Derry City and
Finn Harps star, 1993 PFAI Player of the Year,
O’Brien said he is delighted that his players have
earned the right to display their talent in such a
high-profile match.
“Sligo are the best footballing team in the country.
They are joint-top of the Premier League and the
current cup holders. It is a great chance for our
boys to pit their wits against such a high standard
of opposition. They know they need to improve and
they can,” he said.
Ulster Senior League winning manager O’Brien praised
the commitment of the players ahead of Monday’s big
match.
“After the win against Buncrana on Sunday, two or
three of the players were struggling with knocks so
they went down to the sea to cool down. The team is
totally dedicated and we are hoping to create some
more history at Maginn Park,” he added. |
