Moville Paddy's Day comes of age
07.03.11
MOVILLE'S St Patrick's
Day Festival will come of age on March 17 when the
popular event celebrates its 21st anniversary.
The local committee will get the 'key of the door'
this patron saint's day after many long years of
hard work and voluntary commitment.
And to mark the occasion, the 2011 community event
on the banks of the Foyle will be bigger, better and
greener than ever before.
The committee, who have been meeting monthly in the
Trawlerman Bar, have organised a five-day bumper
programme of music, fun and entertainment for the
whole family, from Tuesday, March 15 until Saturday,
March 19. St Patrick's Day on Thursday, will be the
festival highlight with the ever-popular parade,
floats, marching bands and open air music and
entertainment.
Moville St Patrick's Day committee chairman, Eamon
McLaughlin is keen to point out that the annual
festival is open to everyone from near and far. He
stressed there will be no entry fee for floats.
"We are inviting everyone to take part - you don't
have to be from Moville. Everyone is more than
welcome to come along and take part," he said. |

Eamon said everyone was
looking forward to a bumper anniversary festival and
people could expect a very enjoyable time. He said
the community always received the festival well and
this year would be no different. Meanwhile, the
committee are also keeping their fingers crossed for
good weather - a bonus every time.
Among this year's highlights in the run up to the
big day, will be a Grand Variety Concert on Tuesday,
March 15 in the Caiseal Mara Hotel at 7.30pm
featuring a wide range of performers including
talented children from the local schools. Meanwhile,
all musicians, singers and dancers are invited to
join a big Traditional Night of Irish Music in the
Trawlerman Bar on Wednesday, March 16, kicking off
at 9.30pm. The parade itself, on Thursday, will be
the main attraction. Everyone is invited to enter a
float and this year, the number is expected to be
the biggest yet. The assembly point for motorised
floats will be Glencrow, beside the Co-Op, while
paraders on foot gather at the Corner Bar. There is
no entry fee and the prize-giving ceremony will take
place the following evening in the Corner Bar at
10pm. The parade kicks off at 2.30pm sharp.
Revellers can also enjoy an open air concert on the
day with Gael Force 10. For more information,
