FORMER European
election candidate Fiachra Ó Luain has urged all
general election candidates to recruit tallymen
before Friday's vote.
Ó Luain called for a Garda investigation in 2009
following the discovery during a recount, that 3,000
of his first preference votes had been bundled in
with those of Libertas candidate, Declan Ganley. It
was Mr Ganley, ironically, who had called for the
recount. The outcome of the election remained
unchanged.
Mr Ó Luain said he received an email on February 15,
from a senior investigating officer at the Garda
Ombudsman's office stating he had “yet to receive
the outcome of the review requested under Section 94
(11) of the Garda Síochána Act 2005”.
Carndonagh-based Mr Ó Luain, who was assaulted
during last year's peace flotilla to Gaza, has made
serious allegations about how his votes ended up in
another pile. Meanwhile, he said Ireland needed "a
flotilla-type fraternity”. "What Ireland really
needs is a people’s revolution rather than a
politicians’ election," he said.
“The moral bankruptcy in this country began years
before the financial bankruptcy and we need to fight
against institutional immorality before we have a
hope of any improvement in our day-to-day lives."
Ó Luain said he decided not to stand in these
elections due to a family bereavement.
He said he was supporting Donegal North East
Independent candidate Ryan Stewart "because of his
analysis and experience of the VRT and other issues
that affect the border area".
Mr Ó Luain also recommended people vote for the
United Left Alliance and other "principled
Independents". |
