NO application form
will be necessary for most parents applying for the
Back-to-School Allowance, according to Senator Jimmy
Harte.
The Donegal senator said his colleague and Minister
for Social Protection, Joan Burton had committed to
keeping up to date information on back to school
allowance. Some 170,000 families with 380,000
children will benefit from the scheme this year.
“The administrative arrangements for the 2012 scheme
will be fully automated with no application form
required from most customers. Some 115,350 customers
received a letter from the Department of Social
Protection earlier this week telling them when and
how their payment will be made," said Ms Burton.
Customers who have not received notification of an
automated payment will be required to complete an
application form which is available from local
offices, by text or online.
The scheme assists eligible categories of people to
meet the cost of school clothing and footwear. It is
paid in respect of children aged between four and 17
years and youths between 18 and 22, if in full time
education.
Rates are €150 for the younger children and €250 for
the older. Payments will issue from July 16, 2012.
