Derry wins All-Ireland Fleadh

DERRY is jubilant today
after its bid to host Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in
2013 was successful. The coup is also likely to have
a positive spin-off for Inishowen.
Members of the central executive of Comhaltas voted
in favour of the city’s bid.
Derry Mayor, Maurice Devenney acknowledged the
city's "teamwork and strong partnership" in the
massive coup.
The Fleadh is expected to attract some 30,000 to the
city, bringing with it an economic boost of about
£40 million. |

“I would like to extend
a special thanks and word of congratulations to
everyone involved in putting the bid together. There
was a strong city team and a tremendous partnership
in place which helped secure this success," said
Alderman Devenney.
“The All Ireland Fleadh is a huge event for the city
and region as we prepare for the UK City of Culture
in 2013. The decision to support our bid is great
news for everyone involved in promoting the city.
"It presents us with a unique opportunity to welcome
up to 30,000 people to the city and region and
achieving an estimated economic benefit of
£40million.” |
