Music to the ears with free Jazz
trail
19.04.12
THERE was music to the
ears of jazz lovers yesterday as the City of Derry
Jazz and Big Band Festival announced its free
Guinness Jazz Trail for the May Bank Holiday.
Now in its 11th year, the popular festival once
again has a jam-packed programme of events with a
host of performers who will take over the city's
pubs and clubs for four days.
More than 90% of the some 300 artists appearing at
this year's festival will be free to the public to
attend. Along with ever-popular Gay McIntyre, this
year sees a return of many other festival favourites
including John Leighton, Cat Scratch Fever, the
Jiveoholics and Les Swingin Lovers. |

Derry Mayor, Cllr
Maurice Devenney, welcomed the launch of the free
jazz trail and the opportunity for people to enjoy
such a diverse range of musical talent.
"Once again we have to thank Guinness for adding to
the accessibility of the event and providing the
opportunity for so many people to join in the
festival for free.
"Their support since the festival first started 11
years ago has been integral to its success, and it
has become such a positive showcase of our city,
especially in the run up to our City of Culture year
in 2013," he said. |
