22.06.12
A MUFF woman who
studies in Derry has been named the best performing
student across the North's further education
colleges in the foundation degree in Early Childhood
Studies.
Karen McMenamin was the highest achiever among more
than 100 students in the course, which is an
employment-focused programme aimed at producing the
next generation of childcare workers, classroom
assistants and crèche managers.
Karen completed a hat-trick for the North West
Regional College in Derry who had the highest course
achievers in the past three years.
Previous recipients were Derry's Tracey Dunne and
Moville's Sharon McLaughlin in 2009-10 and 2010-11
respectively. |

Curriculum manager,
Lisa Hutton, said: “To have one top performing
student is an achievement in itself, but to have
three-in-a-row, well that’s very special. Our
students have always been dedicated to their
studies, they are hard-working and motivated, and
these qualities make them very easy to teach."
NWRC’s three-year Foundation Degree programme is
available on a part-time basis at the Strand Road
Campus in Derry and provides a nationally-recognised
qualification and evidence of ability to work in the
early years sector. Applications are currently being
taken for the new term in September. More details
