McConalogue has welcomed the HSE’s decision to
refuse proposals to remove the overnight NowDoc
service from Carndonagh and Derrybeg.
Deputy McConalogue had strongly condemned the
proposals to centralise the overnight service in
Letterkenny, forcing sick people to travel long
distances to see a GP during the night.
“I am delighted that the HSE has made the right
decision in this instance. NowDoc is an absolutely
essential service particularly given the geography
of Donegal. Any cut in hours in any location would
have been completely unacceptable, and it would have
put patients at risk," he said.
“The very essence of NowDoc is that it provides an
emergency GP service to patients in need,
particularly those in remote areas. Hundreds of
families and older people in this county depend on
this service and are greatly relieved to learn that
is safe for now.
“I very much welcome the HSE’s sensible decision. It
is heartening to see that the authorities have
listened on this occasion to the concerns of the
patients and communities who would be most affected
by the proposed cuts," he added. |
