28.05.12
THE producers of drama
written by a young man with Asperger's syndrome are
keen for Inishowen families affected by autism to
see his play.
'Isolated People' was written by Ritchie Collins
Moore from Derry and is directed by Marion Kenny. |
The play hopes to raise
awareness of autistic spectrum disorder through the
medium of drama.
Geraldine McGaughey who has worked extensively in
the field of autistic spectrum disorder said the
play would have resonance with families affected by
autism in the peninsula.
"Ritchie and I are very keen to let as many people
know in Inishowen about the drama. I have worked in
the field of autistic spectrum disorder for over
seven years and to date this is the first play I
have come across that looks at this disorder," she
said. Ms McGaughey described the condition as "a
hidden disability" that not only affects the
individual with autism but can also "isolate the
whole family".
'Isolated People' follows autistic teenager, James,
as he struggles to find his sense of belonging in
society. |
