Headliners revealed for Rory
Gallagher birthday
29.02.12
THE HEADLINE acts for
this year's Rory Gallagher International Festival
will be unveiled this Friday on what would have been
the rock n’ blues legend's 64th birthday.
The festival will take place in Ballyshannon, Co
Donegal, from Thursday, May 31 to Sunday, June 3,
2012.
Organisers have hinted that “it will be the best
line-up in the 11 years of the festival".
Festival chairperson Barry O’Neill said:“We are
excited by the calibre of acts that we are
finalising in advance of Friday’s announcement.
"I can assure Rory Gallagher fans and music
followers that this line-up of acts will pay homage
to the G-man and many of them have played through
the great Gallagher years, have played the same
stages and indeed are household names in their own
right."
The rumour mill has been going into overdrive on
social media networks over the last fortnight, with
fans and music followers suggesting and attempting
to chance a guess as to who the headline acts might
be. However the organisers are keeping their secret
close to the hearts and will reveal all, by way of a
birthday present to Rory this Friday. The guitar
legend died almost 17 years ago in June 1995. |

Over 12,000 rock, blues
and Rory fans converged on Ballyshannon for last
year’s 4-day tribute and it’s expected that similar
numbers will attend this year. The Big Top will make
a first ever appearance at the festival, and it will
play host to the headline acts on the 1st, 2nd and
3rd of June.
Among the acts already announced are renowned UK
Blues Guitarist – Larry Miller and his band, the
legendary Mama’s Boy’s Guitarist – Pat McManus and
his band, Dutch Band Laundromat who make a welcomed
return to Ballyshannon after seven years, the crowd
favourites Sinnerboy and Shinkicker, while there is
a debut for Glasgow band Against the Grain. No Rory
Gallagher Festival would be complete without local
legends Johnny Gallagher & Boxtie, Moonchild and The
Skins.
The Rory Gallagher Festival website
www.goingtomyhometown.com has all the details for
the four-day festival. The event was recently named
the Best Irish Festival for attendances between
10,000 and 30,000 visitors at the Irish Festival
Awards. |
