Inishowen "overlooked" on schools
13.03.12
Inishowen has been
"completely overlooked" by the Government in the new
five-year School Building Programme published
yesterday, Deputy Charlie McConalogue has claimed.
“I am shocked and disappointed that the three school
Campus Development project for Crana College, Gael
Choláiste and Gaelscoil has been completely ruled
out by Minister Quinn in his new five year plan.
“This means that there will be no construction
whatsoever until at least 2016/2017. The project has
been listed as the number one priority for Donegal
VEC and a detailed proposal has been submitted to
the Department of Education. But now it has been
confirmed that there is no prospect of construction
starting for at least five years.
“In addition to this, Scoil Íosagáin in Buncrana has
also been overlooked. This school, which has a large
number of children with special needs, is at
capacity and using every inch of space available. |

"The children and
teachers desperately need more appropriate
facilities and they will be deeply disappointed that
there is no chance of any investment in the near
future.
“The Government billed this School Building
Programme as a major announcement, but it has
certainly fallen short of the mark. Communities in
Inishowen that are already concerned about the
Government’s lack of consideration for small and
rural schools will be very disappointed that the
entire peninsula will be ignored for schools
construction investment over the next five years.
"It raises even more concerns about this
Government’s unbalanced approach with the education
budget,” added the FF spokesperson on children. |
