Mayor appeals for privacy for Gallagher family 13.12.12

The Mayor of Donegal, Cllr Frank McBrearty has appealed for privacy on behalf of the family of teenager Shannon Gallagher who has died tragically less than two months after the death of her little sister Erin.
It is believed 15-year old Shannon also died by suicide. Gardaí are investigating claims 13 year old Erin was the victim of a campaign of cyberbullying before her death in October.
Donegal VEC today put in place a critical incident team following the death of 4th year Finn Valley College student Shannon.
The head of the Donegal VEC Sean Purcell said it was an extremely distressing time for the Gallagher family, the school and local community.
Cllr Frank McBrearty expressed his "sincerest condolences" to Shannon's family and friends.
"The Mayor would like to ask that the relevant authorities be given the time and space to review the circumstances of this tragedy so as to allow them to respond in the most appropriate way. He is also asking that the wishes of the family for privacy at this very sad time be respected by all concerned," a Council spokesperson said in a statement.
The statement continued that Cllr McBrearty would be making no further comment at this time.
Meanwhile, relatives of Shannon and Erin asked that the family been given privacy at this time. Anyone affected by details of this report can call The Samaritans on 116 123.
