SIMPLY Music’s new term
of classes and workshops will begin shortly at
Tullyarvan Mill, Buncrana.
Founded in 1995, Simply Music is now Tullyarvan
Mill’s oldest established tenant organisation.
“We were, in fact, one of the very first community
music organisations in the country," said Simply
Music founder, Eleanor Lamb.
“Our approach to music is an inclusive one. We aim
to make music accessible to all, regardless of age,
ability, or any other barrier. Music should be fun,
rather than stressful and competitive.
"In fact, recent studies have discovered the many
and varied benefits of music at all stages of life.
As well as the obvious ones such as development of
social skills, turn-taking, the ability to listen,
music for the very young can also help in such areas
as spatial awareness, language development,
mathematical ability.
"Music is the only activity which uses both sides of
the brain, so the benefits are immense right across
the age spectrum, into adulthood," added Eleanor.
Classes and workshops on offer range from ‘Exploring
Music’, an introductory workshop for 4 – 7
year-olds; to classes for children and adults in
traditional music (tin whistle, bodhran, fiddle,
accordion), in pop/folk/rock (drums, guitar,
keyboard, voice), and in classical music (piano,
voice). Numbers will be limited. Registration day is
this Saturday, September 1 and term begins on
Monday, September 10.
