Local bride's Winning Streak dilemma 23.10.12

by Linda McGrory

A BRIDE-to-be is faced with a big dilemma this Saturday - whether to say 'I do' to her fiance or to RTE's Winning Streak.
Mary O'Sullivan (34) from Shrove, couldn't believe it when she was drawn to appear on the show the same day she is to marry long-term partner, Eoin Hamdam.
The Dublin-based special needs assistant will marry IT consultant Eoin (39) in her native Inishowen on October 27. Question is, will they get her to Montrose on time?
"What are the odds of getting picked for Winning Streak on your wedding day? I still can't believe it," she laughed.
"My mother always buys me scratchcards and when I got the three stars recently I considered waiting a while to post it, in case I was picked and it clashed with my wedding. Then I thought, 'nah, that won't happen'. Well, it did," she said.
Shrove's Mary O'Sullivan who was picked for Winning Streak on her wedding day.
She got the good news she was to appear on the show as she returned from a month's mind Mass for her beloved aunt and godmother, Bridie O'Donnell in Carn. "I think it was a wedding present from my aunt Bridie who passed away," she said.
Mary, the daughter of Donal and Rosaline, has decided to stick with her wedding schedule. But with all her family and friends attending the nuptials, she has now chosen a friend's daughter - Dublin student Ciara Ní Chleirigh (21) - to take her seat on the show. She has even instructed her young proxy to bring a 'rent-a-crowd' of her choosing to cheer her on.
"I've told Ciara to go and have a great time with her friends and of course win me plenty of money," she quipped.
Mary and Eoin will marry in Moville as her stand-in appears on Winning Streak.
Meanwhile, Mary is putting finishing touches this week to her dream wedding. She will marry at 1pm in St Pius the Tenth church, Moville, in front of 170 family and friends followed by a reception at the Redcastle Hotel.
"We have tweaked the reception a bit now. When the meal is over we'll all pull up a seat to watch Ciara on Winning Streak between 8pm and 9pm - the hotel is hoping to get us a big screen. The dancing can get underway after that."
Mary and Eoin who have been together for nearly five years and rent a home in Blackrock, Co Dublin, will enjoy a six-day honeymoon in Budapest. Before that, the lucky bride-to-be will be in with a chance of winning cars, holidays and up to 500,000 euro in cash on the television gameshow.
"It will be a great start to married life. Whatever money Ciara wins on the show we will put towards a deposit on a house," she beamed.
