YOU'RE better off going
to AA pretending you're an alcoholic than sitting
drunk in a bar pretending you're not.
That's the message from Alcoholics Anonymous who
will hold their Donegal area convention this
weekend.
The AA Donegal Area Convention will take place at
Jackson's Hotel, Ballybofey, from Friday, October 18
until October 20. There will be open meetings at
this event where you are welcome to come and hear
about the programme and how it can help you, a loved
one or a friend.
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and
women who share their experience, strength and hope
with each other that they may solve their common
problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to
stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA
membership. "We are self-supporting through our own
contributions. AA is not allied with any sect,
denomination, politics, organisation or institution.
It does not wish to engage in any controversy and
neither endorses nor opposes any causes," the group
said in a statement.
"Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other
alcoholics to achieve sobriety."
The first open meeting will be at 8pm on Friday
evening and again at 12 noon on Sunday. |
