Ninth remembrance day at Fort Dunree 26.06.13

A LARGE attendance is expected at Fort Dunree this Sunday for the ninth annual remembrance commemoration for the Inishowen men and women who fell in the Great War 1914 - 1918.
The museum will host the event in association with the Inishowen Friends of Messines.
Since the event commenced in 2005 it has grown in stature and become a platform for disparate communities to come together "with a unity of purpose, foster relationships and build new ones as the years roll on".
A large crowd is expected at the cliff-top Fort Dunree for the ninth annual remembrance day for those from Inishowen who died in WW1.
Visitors can also visit the Peace Wall and Garden inside the grounds of Fort Dunree in which five memorial plaques are inscribed with the names of the Inishowen war dead.
"Commemoration of historical events is a prominent feature in the culture of both main traditions in Ireland. In the coming Decade of Remembrance there are a number of key historical events such as the signing of the Ulster Covenant in 1912, passing of the Irish Home Rule Bill in 1914, Battle of the Somme 1916, the Easter Rising and proclamation of 1916, all of which impacted in the world in which we live in today and the centenaries which will be commemorated over imminent years," said a spokesperson.
The ceremony this Sunday, June 30, 2013 will begin at 2.30pm and everyone is welcome.
