Ninth remembrance day at Fort
Dunree

A LARGE attendance is
expected at Fort Dunree this Sunday for the ninth
annual remembrance commemoration for the Inishowen
men and women who fell in the Great War 1914 - 1918.
The museum will host the event in association with
the Inishowen Friends of Messines.
Since the event commenced in 2005 it has grown in
stature and become a platform for disparate
communities to come together "with a unity of
purpose, foster relationships and build new ones as
the years roll on". |

A large crowd is expected at the
cliff-top Fort Dunree for the ninth annual
remembrance day for those from Inishowen who died in
WW1. |
Visitors can also visit
the Peace Wall and Garden inside the grounds of Fort
Dunree in which five memorial plaques are inscribed
with the names of the Inishowen war dead.
"Commemoration of historical events is a prominent
feature in the culture of both main traditions in
Ireland. In the coming Decade of Remembrance there
are a number of key historical events such as the
signing of the Ulster Covenant in 1912, passing of
the Irish Home Rule Bill in 1914, Battle of the
Somme 1916, the Easter Rising and proclamation of
1916, all of which impacted in the world in which we
live in today and the centenaries which will be
commemorated over imminent years," said a
spokesperson.
The ceremony this Sunday, June 30, 2013 will begin
at 2.30pm and everyone is welcome. |
