COELIAC sufferers in
Inishowen are being invited to meet up and swap tips
at their annual Christmas dinner dance this Friday
at The Beach House, Buncrana.
"Coeliac disease is a lifelong condition, whereby
some adults or children react to gluten, the protein
found in wheat, barley, oats and rye. A gluten-free
diet for life is the only treatment and difficulties
encountered by coeliacs are the high cost of
gluten-free foods, their only medicine," said a
spokesperson from the Inishowen Coeliac Support
Group.
"Support and information, including meeting fellow
coeliacs is essential to cope with this condition.
The Coeliac Society provides an annual food list,
newsletters, website, an e-bulletin and support
events and literature to help those who must stick
to a gluten-free diet." The annual gluten-free
dinner and dance starts at 7.45pm at the Beach
House, The Pier, Buncrana. Music will be by Robbie
Cunningham.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for local coeliacs
to meet up and to exchange tips and information in a
relaxed setting, while enjoying a meal without the
usual worries encountered when eating out." All
welcome - cost €28. To book, please contact Patrick
at 074 9362769 or 086 8451408, or email at
