FEUDING rock star
brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher have been invited
to swap the grapes of wrath for an award-winning
wine sent all the way from Australia to Ireland in
their honour.
A top vineyard Down Under has sent cases of
'Gallagher's Choice' Cabernet Sauvignon in the hope
the rock star brothers will sample it at a big
family reunion in Co Donegal beginning this weekend.
Woody Nook Wines in Western Australia dispatched the
classic full-bodied wine after reading that the
former Oasis stars had been invited to hug and make
up at the Gallagher Global Gathering in Gortahork in
the Donegal Gaeltacht.
Winery proprietor Jane Bailey said she hoped the
brothers would not 'look back in anger' but raise a
glass of their namesake vintage to end their
long-running dispute.
“I was thumbing through the West Australian
newspaper and spotted the headline 'Rock duo offered
oasis of calm' with a photo of Liam and Noel
Gallagher and read the story of the Gallagher Global
Gathering taking place in September.
"I said to myself 'Oh my goodness - Gallagher's
Choice - wouldn't that be the most perfect wine for
the occasion?" she beamed.
The wine - named after Jeff and Wynn Gallagher who
founded the vineyard in 1982 - has picked up top
honours at London's prestigious International Wine &
Spirit Competition.
Jane and her husband Peter recently travelled to Co
Donegal to meet the festival organisers. They also
gifted a special limited edition 2010 magnum - from
a batch of just 332 bottles - to be presented to the
Gallagher Global Award recipient at a special gala
dinner during the festival.
Hundreds of Gallaghers are expected to attend the
gathering which kicks off today and runs until
September 15.
Special guest will be Benny Gallagher of Gallagher
and Lyle's 'Breakaway' fame who will give a master
class for songwriters and headline the concert
finale.
Clan chief Adrian Gallagher coyly said he could not
divulge whether one or both of the former Oasis duo
had accepted their invitation. But it is widely
hoped the Manchester rock stars will, as 'Braveheart'
put it, "unite the clans".
"The clan invites all Gallaghers and their friends
to come to Co Donegal - the original Gallagher
homeland - to celebrate our shared heritage from the
live language and music to the local history and
genealogy," he said. |
