Moville senior men
recorded hard earned but well deserved win away to Letterkenny Gaels on Saturday night.
Having won the toss Moville opted to play with the
wind in the first half. The first point of the game
came in the third minute from Danny Murphy following
a mazy run. This was followed in the ninth minute by
a long range point from Nigel McMonagle who was
causing the Letterkenny Gaels all sorts of problems
with his movement. Danny Murphy added his second
point and Moville’s third a minute later with a well
taken score from an acute angle. Directly from the
resulting kick out Malachy Mc Dermott rose high to
superbly field the ball; and with a quick look up,
launched a shot from all of 60 metres that sailed
between the posts. Oran McDermott added a free on
the sixteenth minute before Letterkenny Gaels got
their first score of the evening in the eighteenth
minute with a free from thirty metres. There
followed a period of ten minutes without any score
before Letterkenny player Conor McBrearty rounded
his Moville marker and shot goal wards and was a
little fortunate to see the ball drop in over
Moville keeper, James Harkin’s head into the back of
the net. Oran Mc Dermott added a further free in the
29th minute to leave the half time score 0-07 to
1-01.
Letterkenny Gaels opened the brighter and added the
first point of the second half with a free in the
34th minute. Oran McDermott then added his third on
37 minutes after winning a long ball in and turning
sharply to send the ball between the posts.
Letterkenny Gaels responded immediately with another
free on the 38th minute. Ciaran Diver pointed after
a good build up in the 41st minute and Jack Keys
scored the point of the day in 44th minute after a
lung bursting run from the full back line.
Letterkenny Gaels then added three unanswered points
in the 45th, 48th and 52nd minutes to leave just two
points between the teams. Moville quickly settled
with Malachy Mc Dermott’s second point after good
work by Seamus Hegarty and Danny Murpny. Oran
McDermott added his fifth and Moville’s lucky
thirteenth in the 61st minute to close out the game
and leave the final score 0-13 to 1-06. This was
Moville’s eighth league win in succession and now
leaves them very much in the shake up for the league
and the play-off positions with six games remaining
Turning Point: Moville were always ahead in this
game. Jack Keys point in the 44th minute give them a
5 point lead and although Letterkenny Gaels tried
hard they could not bridge that gap.
Player of the match: Conor Mc Brearty of Letterkenny
Gaels caught the eye with his strong running. For
Moville, veteran keeper, James Harkin was very
accurate with his kick outs; Enda Faulker was superb
at centre half forward, stemming all the attacks
that came his way and getting forward at every
opportunity. The player of the Match goes to Oran Mc
Dermott; his movement and demanding of the ball was
excellent and with three scores from four attempts
from the dead ball and a further two from play
giving him five in total, he was the stand out
player. |
