Hosted by BBC Radio 1's
Edith Bowman, the 'Hear the City Sing’ event will
also feature local acts as well as a spectacular
Global Rainbow art installation. Live music will
also be held in a number of local cafes.
Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly said he was delighted the
former Westlife frontman would help the city launch
a great year of music ahead.
“‘Hear the City Sing’ provides the perfect
combination of local talent with that of an
internationally recognised performer, combining
music and visual art at an inspiring event which
will reach out to a wide ranging audience within and
outside the city," he said.
Derry City Council director of legacy, Oonagh
McGillion, added: “We have had an exceptional year
not only for musical performances but also for
educational and community engagement projects and
now we must put into practice our Music Legacy plan.
We have been given a once in a lifetime opportunity
to make the most of 2013 and 'Hear the City Sing'
provides the opportune event to be enjoyed by all
generations.”
