Donegal people off to major cancer seminar 20.08.14

REPRESENTATIVES of cancer support groups in Co Donegal will attend a conference for survivors next month organised by the Irish Cancer Society.
Members of Coiste Scaoil Saor Ó Ailse, Gweedore and Living Beyond Cancer, Letterkenny, will attend the event entitled 'Living Well with Cancer'. It is open to cancer survivors, their family and friends and "aims to tackle the physical and emotional consequences that a cancer diagnosis and treatment can bring".
The conference is being held as part of Ireland’s first Cancer Week organised by the Irish Cancer Society in association with Trinity College Dublin
Irish Cancer Society patient support groups manager,Olwyn Ryan, said: “The transition from cancer patient to survivor can be difficult for those on a cancer journey. Access to information and support to deal with issues such as fear of the cancer coming back, financial strain and long term side effects of treatment is vital."
Ms Ryan encouraged any cancer survivors in Donegal interested in the event, to attend.
"The aim of the conference is to give delegates the opportunity to engage with experts in the field and to introduce them to other survivors so that they may help and support each other.”
The free conference will take place on Friday, September 19-20 at the Aviva Stadium, Lansdowne Road, Dublin.
Meanwhile, Cancer Week 2014 will run from September 15 – 21 with a number of events organised including: World Lymphoma Awareness Day – September 15; Mouth, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Day – September 17 and Cancer Survivorship Research Day – September 18.
