27 apply for Donegal firefighter

DONEGAL County Council
has received 27 applications for four retained
firefighter job vacancies.
The local authority is looking to recruit
suitably-qualified people for the four positions
located in Stranorlar, Donegal Town and Bundoran.
The part-time jobs attract an annual retainer fee of
just over €7,500 and nightly call-out rates of
almost €80 for the first hour and almost €40 for
every subsequent hour. The daily call-out rate is
set at almost €40 for the first hour and almost €20
for each hour thereafter. A rate of almost €20 per
hour is paid for training.
Among the qualifying conditions is that candidates
must live and work within a maximum distance of
2.5km of the fire station and at a location
acceptable to Donegal's Chief Fire Officer. |

Successful candidates
for these positions are also required to obtain a
Class C driving licence at their own expense.
Candidates will also be shortlisted for interview.
Closing date for applications was September 30. A
Council spokesperson confirmed to Inishowen News
that a total of 27 applications were received for
the four positions which were advertised in the
recruitment section of the local authority's
website.
Meanwhile, National Fire Safety Week takes place
from today October 6 - October 13. As part of the
events Buncrana Fire Station will host an open night
on Wednesday, October 8 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The
public is invited to go along and meet the local
fire crews and see the engines and fire apparatus.
Fire safety information and literature will also be
