A PARISH priest has
been appointed to replace Moville priest Fr Eugene
Boland who resigned his duties in Omagh earlier this
month.
Fr Kevin McElhennon has been appointed by Bishop
Donal McKeown to replace Fr Boland in Cappagh
parish. Fr Boland had returned to work in the parish
after being cleared of indecent assault charges in
2012.
But senior clergy said it became clear that Fr
Boland "needed more time" returning to ministry and
his resignation was accepted.
Fr McElhennon, a former administrator and media
spokesperson at St Eugene's Cathedral, is seen by
Cappagh parishioners as a popular choice. He has
worked in the parish for almost ten years and is
also a hospital chaplain in the Tyrone area.
It is understood Fr Boland may now take some time
out in his native Inishowen. |
