Film festival returns to Malin
"spiritual home"

MALIN is once again
preparing to host the Guth Gafa International
Documentary Film Festival next month.
The festival is returning to the unspoilt 17th
century village at the later time of the October
Bank Holiday. A packed programme of films and
entertainment will be on offer, according to the
organisers.
Once again, documentary film-makers from all over
the world will make their way to Ireland’s most
northerly village which will be transformed into a
film mecca with purpose-built cinemas and a marquee
in the village green for the festival.
In a new departure this year, Guth Gafa in Malin is
opening the Guth Gafa Film Week, which will see the
festival relocate to Headfort, Co Meath over the
following Halloween weekend. |

Director David Rane
points out that Guth Gafa, now in its eighth year,
is following the pattern of many of the most
successful international film festivals, which have
screenings in more than one location.
“We received magnificent support from the community
and audiences in Malin last year so it is very
important to the festival that Malin remains its
spiritual home but ultimately this is also about
creating opportunities for as wide an audience as
possible to see some of the best documentary films
in the world.
“We have wonderful films to show that deal with many
of the most important issues of the day and our aim
is to get them out to as many people as we can while
retaining the intimacy of the festival,” he added.
The Guth Gafa festival will be held in Malin from
October 25-26 October 2014.
