Moville shows solidarity with
people of Gaza

THERE was a large
turnout last Friday in Moville as scores of people
gathered in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
Co-organiser of the vigil, Rose Kelly said she was
moved that so many including local children came out
to show support.
The event in the Square included music, poetry,
traditional Palestinian food and beverages all
enhanced by gloriously sunny weather. |

Donations of some €300
were also collected towards emergency aid for the
besieged territory.
Rose said many people brought keys to the event.
Keys are traditional Palestinian symbols of their
Right of Return as refugees under the Fourth Geneva
Convention.
"When last Friday's 'Vigil of Compassion and
Solidarity for Gaza' in Moville ended, several keys
were left remaining on the table where those in
attendance had shared traditional Palestinian food
and drink in a recognition of our common humanity
and in acknowledgment of the renowned hospitality of
the besieged Palestinian people," she said. |

"The image of the keys
lying on the table when the gathering had dispersed
is a very strong one. Even if the Palestinians were
allowed their Right of Return tomorrow, even if the
violence were to stop, there is so much hurt and
loss that things will never be the same again."
The Moville primary school teacher said the
organisers wanted to thank everyone "who
wholeheartedly contributed in any way to making the
vigil happen in the way that it did".
"Thanks also to all of those who gave financial
contributions towards emergency aid for Gaza. All
monies donated will be given to Helen Deery who will
be travelling with the supplies next month," she
added. |
