DONEGAL is seeing a
recovery in the residential construction sector with
an increase in project commencements in the first
eight months of this year, latest figures show.
However, there has been a fall in the number of
planning applications in the county, the National
Housing Construction Index compiled by Link2Plans
reveals.
Planning applications in Donegal decreased from 455
in January to August 2013, to 365 for the same
period in 2014 - a 20% decline.
The index confirmed that Donegal building project
commencements are up 63% compared to last year.
Nationally, meanwhile, project commencements are up
40% while the number of new planning applications
are up by 12%, the index shows.
Links2Plans managing director Danny O’Shea said:
"The 63% year on year increase in project
commencements for Donegal is an extremely strong
result and is good news for the residential
construction sector.
"Only eight counties, including Donegal recorded a
fall in the number of planning applications when
compared to the same period in 2013; the fewest
number of counties with a decrease in planning
applications since the start of the year.” |
