Termon... 0-7
Malin... 1-13
Malins recent run of good form continued when they
claimed their second successive victory in the Burn
Road against bottom of the league Termon on Saturday
evening.
Malin enjoyed the lion share of the possession but
it was only in the final fifteen minutes of the game
that they made their dominance count and rattled
over six points without reply to claim the points
The opening quarter was a cagey affair as the home
side went into an early 0-2 to 0-0 lead courtesy of
points from Kevin McDaid and Stephen McElwaine but
Malin soon levelled proceedings with Matthew Byrne
and Brendan Mc Laughlin opening their accounts for
the evening.
The first real goal scoring opportunity of the game
fell to Termon corner forward Dara McDaid but Declan
Lafferty pulled off a fantastic save and the home
side had to settle with a point for their efforts.
Michael Byrne tied the game for a second time and
Malin were awarded a penalty soon after when county
player Stephen McLaughlin was bundled down inside
the box. Up stepped Michael Byrne and county
panelist Michael Boyle was helpless as Byrne fired
home to put Malin in front for the first time in the
encounter and into a lead, which they would not
relinquish until the final whistle. Brendan Mc
Laughlin and Matthew Byrne stretched Malins
advantage, while Coalan Mc Daid pointed for Termon.
The home sides cause was not helped when Bernard
Alcorn was shown the black card in the closing
stages, leaving his side with it all do all in as
they trailed 0-4 to 1-5 at the interval.
The second half began in much the same vein as the
first, with Termon bringing it back to a 2-point
game. Terence Colhouns chargers decided enough was
enough was they upped the ante in the final quarter
and soon put the result to bed. Jamie Doherty got
his sides final score of the game in the 45th
minute. Malin had a host of unanswered points from
Paul McLaughlin, Matthew Byrne (2), Brendan
McLaughlin (2), Paul McLaughlin and even second half
substitute Daniel McDaid got into the act in the
closing stages. The result ensures Malin put a
little breathing space between themselves and Termon
who are in the bottom spot.
