Swap old light bulbs for free
spring flowers
13.08.15
A BLOOMING marvellous
new scheme allows people to swap their old
energy-saving light bulbs for spring flowering bulbs
- for free.
The Great Bulb Exchange has just been launched by
WEEE Ireland in association with the Irish lighting
industry and hardware stores nationwide.
Greenfingered Inishowen people can get their free
swap at branches of Inishowen Co-Op in Buncrana,
Carn and Moville. |
Customers can simply
bring back their waste CFL/energy saving bulbs to
participating hardware suppliers and get beautiful
spring flowering bulbs in exchange at no extra
charge.
Woodies, Arro, Homevalue, Expert Hardware and
Topline are all taking part in the nationwide scheme
which runs for the next four weeks.
Almost 3 million waste lamps were collected by WEEE
Ireland in association with Irish Lamp Recycling
last year.
However, about two-thirds of old bulbs are still
going into general household rubbish bins or are
being hoarded at home.
WEEE Ireland chief executive Leo Donovan said: “It
is our hope that The Great Bulb Exchange grows the
awareness of recycling when people are changing
energy saving bulbs in the home and that these
unwanted bulbs end up being recycled and not thrown
into the bin.” |
