Donegal donations bound for Calais
refugees
01.10.15
EIGHTEEN pallets of
essential supplies donated by the people of Donegal
are en-route to refugees stranded in the French port
of Calais.
Donations including blankets, sleeping bags, tents,
clothes and toiletries were collected at seven
locations around the county in the last fortnight.
They have now been dispatched to the Ireland Calais
Refugee Solidarity Group’s distribution centre in
Cork.
Donegal County Council chief executive Seamus Neely
said: “The generosity of the people of Donegal has
been outstanding."
And he singled out local haulier Duffy Express
Freight which volunteered its services free of
charge to collect all the donations from around the
county and sort them at its depot in
Newtowncunningham. |

refugees in Calais, France. |
“We could not have done
this without the support and assistance of William
Duffy and his team at Duffy Express Freight. They
provided their services completely free of charge
and we are very grateful to them for all their
assistance," he added.
Mr Neely also acknowledged the support of the local
media for getting the message about the collection
out to the public who, in turn, responded generously
to help those caught up in the growing humanitarian
crisis across Europe. |
