Carndonagh courthouse will not
close - Doherty
14.07.15
AN INISHOWEN councillor
has welcomed assurances from Minister for Justice
Frances Fitzgerald that there are no plans to close
Carndonagh courthouse.
The matter was raised with the minister by Sinn Féin
TD., Pádraig MacLochlainn following representations
from his colleague Councillor Albert Doherty on
behalf of local residents.
Cllr Doherty said there was uncertainty about the
future of Carn court sittings following a
comprehensive Courts Service review of its premises
in 2012. |
He said clarity was
then sought on the future of the north Inishowen
court.
"The future of the courthouse in Carndonagh has been
assured in the reply received by Minister Fitzgerald
from the Courts Service," said Cllr Doherty.
"This positive reply and the clarity in the message
is indeed welcome. Carndonagh's strategic
geographical location in the heart of Inishowen has
also been acknowledged in the Courts Service
'comprehensive review of suitable courthouse venues
throughout the country' and this is also to be noted
and will be welcomed," he added.
The Courts Service keeps the number of court venues
it maintains under continuous review. |

"It is important that
the independent body confirms the merits of
retaining the service in Carndonagh, the central
location in the Inishowen peninsula, now and in
future years to come," the Carn councillor added. |
