Carn remembers Jimmy and Kathleen
Cuddihy
22.10.15
THE community in
Carndonagh will gather this weekend to remember a
local husband and wife who were killed in a double
murder a year ago.
Pensioners Jimmy and Kathleen Cuddihy were found
dead at their home at Churchtown on the Mountain
Road on the morning of October 23, 2014.
Their youngest son, Julian (43), has been charged
with the killings.
He has been remanded in custody since his arrest a
year ago and has been receiving treatment at the
Central Mental Hospital for most of that period.
Superintendent Eugene McGovern of Buncrana garda
station told Inishowen News that the investigation
into the case was now almost concluded.
"The investigation is almost complete and the
submission of a file to the Director of Public
Prosecutions is imminent," said Supt McGovern.
There was widespread shock when the remains of the
retired teacher and nurse, were discovered at their
bungalow on the outskirts of the north Inishowen
town. |

The late Kathleen and Jimmy Cuddihy
whose one year anniversary occurs this week. |
Kilkenny-born Mr
Cuddihy (77) was well-known in the town having first
arrived as a young maths teacher to work in
Carndonagh Community School in the 1960s.
He settled in Carn permanently after marrying
Kathleen (73), a nurse and ambulance worker from
nearby Malin.
The couple had four children, two daughters and two
sons.
Many heartfelt tributes were paid to the
highly-regarded couple who were active in the life
of their local community before and after
retirement.
They were members of Ballyliffin Golf Club and had
both served in captaincy and presidency roles at the
club. Kathleen was a tireless fundraiser with a
particular focus on patients at Letterkenny General
Hospital.
The couple's one-year anniversary mass will take
place at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Carndonagh,
on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 7pm. |
