Donegal County Council
has announced longer opening hours for local
libraries in the county.
The new hours will be implemented at all local
libraries from September 7.
The new schedule of opening hours will see the
introduction of ‘Scheduled Time’, ‘Open Door Time’
and ‘All The Time’.
Scheduled Time: Dedicated hours and support for a
wide range of programmes for specific community
organisations and school groups. An important part
of the service is about meeting the changing needs
of communities by providing programmed events and
activities for all ages. These activities include
bookclubs, summer reading programmes, rhyme time
sessions, local history talks, exhibitions, art
workshops and computer classes.
Open Door Time: These libraries will still continue
to provide accessible services to all members of the
public. Opening hours will be extended in the
morning in many of the local libraries across the
county.
All the Time: Donegal Library Service also provides
a 24 hour eService. There are currently over 400,000
items in stock to borrow from libraries in Donegal.
A quick search of the online catalogue will tell you
what is available. In addition, Donegal Library
Service provides a digital catalogue and you can
download eBooks, audio books, eMagazines free of
charge. The library also offers access to a range of
national and international papers online as well as
online dictionaries and encyclopaedias for adults
and children.
"A space is just a space until it is used by the
people it is created for – you," said the Donegal
Library Service in a statement.
"So come along and visit and sample what your local
library has to offer.
